Happy New Year !!

Well it has been a while but on the homeschool front we have been approved for another 2 years and I am quite happy with the program I have set up for 2009.
We will be doing our normal 3Rs and then doing unit studies that will hopefully cover the rest !! haha ! The girls will be learning piano and the boys are keen on guitar so we have quite a full Term ahead! School goes back for us on the 19th of Jan (I was going to do it the week before but we have 3 doctors appontments that week and I want to start off with a good week !)
If not before I will see you all on the 19th!
The Vege patch is screaming along and we have at least a few nice cucumbers to harvest ! I will post pics of that shortly too !

Plantin' Season !

We just started our very first vegie patch !

Well we have some potatos planted that are ready to harvest - but this is the first time we have actullay planted quite a few seedlings! ...the potato patch was a result of some bad potatos that got thrown into the earth ! The kids helped loosen up the soil which was pretty hard! We then threw dynamic lifter all over the soil - explaining that these are the vitamins for the vegies to grow. then we dug our fuurows and ech child picked which 'vegie' they wanted to plant and look after ... then we sprinkled with fertiliser and watered them in !

Here is what we ended up with :
CUCUMBERS ...
CORN.....

ZUCHINI.....
CAPSICUM.....

WATERMELON ......

SNOW PEAS and TOMATO .....

Thurs/Friday

Ok - so I sat the kids down and we talked about food and what happens to it when it goes into our body - and then what happens when our kids eat it - they then say down and watched the Sue Dengate DVD - and found what is actually IN chicken nuggets (Declan came up to me and said is a hushed whisper ... " Muuuum ..... they use chicken balls!" So we did a little survey and guess how many of them want to eat nuggets next time we go to macdonalds ?? NONE !!
Declan then went through the pantry and got out all of the foods and drink that we are no longer allowed to eat ... he did a really good job and he wants to write his own diet diary.
I must admit that we haven't gone complete elimination - times are tough and it isn't a cheap diet and I do still have so much in my cupboard that can be used ....
I know it is bad but I don't know what else to do ? I wish I could give the kids everything they need and deserve but you can only do so much - and we can only really afford mince which really limits our dinner choices.
I have decided on yet another schooling approach - I hope that the kids adjust along with me - my stress levels are though the roof and I tend to take it out on them - I don't feel like the best home schooling mummy at them moment. I am going to 'restart' on Monday and plan to blog more so I have at least a show to myself how much I am doing.
Well my house is a mess - so I am off to go and work on that for the afternoon.

Scrappin' Kids !

We did some gardening today - I plan on soon starting the kids back on the Failsafe diet - additive and Salycilate free foods only. So I thought I would get them all involved and make it part of our studying - how to read labels .. what is good and bad for them, keeping diaries etc on how they are feeling, what there skin looks like now and then how it feels a week after we start etc.

We have previously done the RPA Allergy Unit elimination diet which is what the Failsafe diet is based on - and that was for the eczema and rashes. The Sue Dengate book I have been reading has made me MORE aware (even though his dietician had told me some things) of how my kids behaviour, asthma and learning may be being affected by the food they are eating. Dana is having an awful time coming to grips with her math work - so possibly she too is being affected by foods? Just in a totally different way to her brothers?! Regardless - the whole family will be participating in the diet if for no other reason that it shows support for the others that need to do it for health. And if we all feel better for it then all the better!

So we started planting our garden today ... our potato's are nearly ready - I should take pics before we pull them out of the ground!

I figure if we grow our own foods and get the kids to help with preparation etc then I will hopefully get a better result in them eating and sticking to the diet.

We spent the afternoon scrapping. The kids all did a page on their favourite things, I think they all did a wonderful job here are the pages they produced...
